Propane Fridges

Effective January 1, 2010 all provinces with the exception of Ontario modified their fuel safety codes (and your insurance co. requirement in those provinces) to only allow Direct Vented (DV) propane fridges. Ontario continues to allow Carbon Monoxide (CM) Alarm/shutdown device protected refrigerators and freezers.

Direct Vent, DV fridges pipe in outside air and exhaust outside as well. Because they don’t use any eternal power the maximum distance from the back of the fridge to the outside is 18”. This requires your Direct Vented fridge to be mounted with it’s back against an outside wall. CM models use a carbon monoxide monitor/alarm/shutdown and do not require venting to the outside


UPG 10 CM 10.0 cu/ft fridge with 2.1 cu/ft freezer. Much greater capacity than competitive models with the same footprint. Total size: 10 cu. ft. Fridge size 7.9 cu. ft. UGP - 3 Total size: 3.4 cu/ft Freezer: .4 cu/ft LPG for off-grid use, but also 12V for use in the truck on the way to your cottage/camping. It can also be used on 110V, then when the power goes out, you still have refrigeration (using it on LPG). The fridge only uses approx 0.7 lbs of propane per day, a 20 lb LPG tank will last a month!
